Vietnam’s exports to the United States reached 10.21 billion U.S. dollars in the first 11 months of last year, down 5.81 percent year-on-year, said the information center of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade on Friday.

Last November, Vietnam pocketed 929.1 million U.S. dollars from exporting goods to the United States, a decrease of 14.62 percent from the previous month.
Vietnam’s export turnover to the U.S. market in the first 11 months of 2009 came mostly from the exports of garment and textile, wood and wood products, footwear, seafood, and crude oil, said the center.
Garment and textile topped the Vietnam’s export items to the United States during the same period with the export turnover standing at 4.51 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 44.13 percent of the total export turnover to this market.
Export turnover of wood and wood products, the second largest export item to the United States, reached 979.46 million U.S. dollars, a climb of 1.91 percent over the same period of a year earlier, said the center.
From January to November last year, the country witnessed a year-on-year drop in most of export items to the U.S. market including garment and textile, footwear, seafood, crude oil, cashew nuts, and coffee.

However, the U.S. importers spent more money during the this period on purchasing wood and wood products, electronic products, precious stones and metals, and tea from the Vietnamese market than the same period of 2008.
Vietnam is expected to see an increase in export this year to the United States thanks to the U.S. economic recovery after the crisis, said the center.
